Grand final night for the Lidcombe Waratah Summer Football (10 to 13) Junior comp saw Lidcombe City, coached by John, take on DC FC, coached by Andy for 3rdplace, followed by All Might FC, coached by Jurgen, taking on You Never Waratah Alone (YNWA), coached by Lee, for the title. In the 3rd place play of game Lidcombe City (pictured in orange) raced to a 2 – 0 lead. DC FC (wearing yellow) managed to pull one back, before Lidcombe City restored their 2-goal cushion at 3 – 1. Two quick goals by DC FC made for an exciting finish as the teams headed into the last 10 minutes tied. Lidcombe City managed to score to take the lead for the 3rd time with 4 – 3. However, they could not hold out to the final whistle as Talitha pounced on the lose ball to poke home and force a penalty shoot-out. Penalty shoot out was a first for most kids and every player from both teams could have a turn meaning penalty shootout was best of 7. After the dust settled it was DC FC who were victorious taking out 3rd place.

In the grand final All Might FC (in blue) took on YNWA (in red). All Might FC raced to an early 2 – 0 lead before YNWA pulled one back to head into half time at 2 – 1. The second half was end-to-end as All Might FC extended their lead to 3 – 1. That did not last long as even a brilliant double save from Mason could not keep the ball out as YNWA bundled the ball over the line on the third attempt. With 10 minutes to go Coach Jurgen was visibly nervous as YNWA held the All Might FC goal under siege, hitting the woodwork 3 times in that time. As the final whistle went, All Might FC were victorious in one of the most exciting games to have been witnessed at Coleman Park.

The Seniors Competition culminated with the Grand Final last Saturday. The Astronauts, defeated the Amigos 5-1 at Coleman Park.
