Local News: ‘Keeper of esky’ marks 50th straight season

Featuring in the Auburn Review the Lidcombe Waratah FC Over 45 Division 1 team celebrated Round 18 and team member Steve Trainer’s 50th straight season of soccer played in the Granville Region competition.
Also known as the ‘keeper of the esky’, Steve has shouldered the responsibility of bringing the team’s esky to the game for at least the past 31 seasons, even receiving recognition from Tooheys last year with an inscribed tankard and congratulatory letter.
Marking the occasion, team guru Ray ‘Macca’ McMillan custom designed a new ‘stand’ – which some might describe as a single chair – to be known as the Steve ‘Strop’ Trainer Stand, which will be put to good use at future home games.
Local News: Youth 2 – Lidcombe Waratah FC

The Youth 2 team raised just over $2,300 for Youth Off The Streets (YOTS) for their sleep out on 6 July. The team endured one winter’s night out at Coleman Park with the team experiencing what some people, specifically youth, go through everyday.
The team would like to thank everyone that contributed time, effort and money towards the team’s campaign to bring awareness of YOTS services and provide some support to their work for our community. A special mention to the following local businesses that helped sponsor the night:
- Family Butchery, 3 Beatrice Street Auburn
- Kismet Cafe Auburn, 20 Auburn Road Auburn
We look forward to see what the Youth team have in mind in their commitment to community services and volunteer work next season!

Lidcombe Waratahs in the Local Newspaper – “Invite to have a ball”

PLAYERS of all ages and every background are welcome at the Lidcombe Waratah Junior Soccer Club. Fielding both mens and womens teams as well as girls and boys teams, the clubs have players ranging in age from five through to their oldest player at 61.
“Our women’s team has players from many different backgrounds and it doesn’t really matter where you come from as long as you are prepared to give it a go on the field. I’m a 42-year-old mum who still plays, and for me it’s about going out and being active but it’s also about community and teamwork. For kids, soccer teaches them not only about being active but also learning to play together and relying on their teammates to achieve results” – Club Secretary, Mel Rennie
